Work on the final stretch of the new bypass in Lichfield is beginning this week. This scheme connects the A5127 (Birmingham Road) with the A5206 (London Road). Although it is just outside of my constituency, those living near to Lichfield will no doubt make use of this road once it is completed.
The road will involved building an underpass between the Cross City Railway line beside the Falkland Road/Birmingham Road roundabout.
The project is being funded by the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership through the Government's Local Growth deal as well as by a private developer.
The road will not only help ease congestion around Lichfield city centre and the railway station but will also link the new housing developments and primary schools.
Due to the underpass crossing the railway, it is a major project but it is hoped that there will be very little disruption to motorists whilst the work takes place.
The road will also help enable new bus, walking and cycling facilities to be created, helping make Lichfield become a more accessible town for residents and tourists.
So keep an eye out as the bypass progresses, the road is expected to be in use by summer 2020.
