This week I was really pleased to have helped host the Celebration of Staffordshire in Parliament on Tuesday. Our county’s 12 MPs were also joined by Staffordshire County Council, the Chambers of Commerce and Local Enterprise Partnership, local businesses, charities, local heroes and of course Tamworth Informed to show off the best that Staffordshire has to offer to the variety of government ministers, media and other MPs that attended.
The attendees from the county ranged from small, local causes, such as Tamworth Boxing Club, Tamworth Brewing Company and Coates Butchers and Caudwell Children in Newcastle-under-Lyme, to larger businesses such as Stoke’s Mr Kipling’s Cakes and ATP Group in Cannock. Five Cabinet ministers and numerous MPs also attended the event and heard each business owner’s successful stories.
I hope the event was a success for those that attended and that it gave us a great opportunity to put our part of the world on the map.
Elsewhere this week, The Chancellor reported in Monday’s Budget that the hard work of the British people is paying off: our careful fiscal management and solid economic recovery means that austerity is coming to an end. The OBR report a significant upgrade to our public finances, underscoring the strength of the economic recovery we have seen.
Now we turn our eyes to the future, which means more support for our great public services, help for household budgets now, and investment for the long-term to deliver higher living standards as our economy grows.
This week I also launched my Christmas card competition which will be between all of Tamworth’s primary schools. The aim is to find the best design for the front of my cards that will be going to around 750 people across Tamworth. The cards are kindly sponsored by Drayton Manor Theme Park. If you know anybody that is at a local primary school then please do encourage them to get involved and see if they will win the best design.
All that’s left for me to say is enjoy the weekend although it does look like winter is fast approaching and let’s hope that England put a good few points passed the Springboks!
