A new rail card especially for veterans has launched today. It will be valid for all journeys from November 5th and is available to anybody who has served at least one day in the armed forces or merchant marines who have seen duty on legally defined military operations.
The card provides a discount for the individual and their companion of around 69% for most rail fares as well as a discount for up to four children (up to 15yrs). The card costs £21 for a year (or £61 for three) and a photo and comes in both a physical card form and a digital version which can be used on your mobile phone.
Reductions work on most tickets including the already cheaper off-peak and advance ones, with the exception of a minimum £12 fare on weekday mornings before 10am.
The card also includes discount on tube travel in London.
The veterans railway card is a great way to give some thanks to those who have served our country and it helps veterans re-enter the world of work, visit friends and family or attend memorial services and veterans gatherings in a much more affordable way.
