It's been there so long, for many commuters it is simply part of the furniture - the scaffolding at Tamworth Railway Station has been in place in some form since August 2016.
Faults had been identified in part of the brickwork, further scaffolding was then added to prevent any more damage, then even more was placed so that the maintenance team could carry out detailed inspections to plan out the necessary repairs.
I have been in contact with Network Rail and I understand that repairs are due to begin this month and continue throughout the summer. So while there may soon be a little disruption, the scaffolding will soon be removed and the stairwell fully repaired.
Please be assured that there is no risk to the safety of passengers or the safe operating of the railway, despite the scaffolding being in place - as unsightly as it looks.
So here's looking forward to summer and a fresher-looking railway station for Tamworth's commuters and visitors!
