Yesterday the Government announced a new partnership with BioNtech to boost research into cancer vaccines, transforming outcomes for cancer patients and strengthening the United Kingdom’s position as a global leader in life sciences.
As we continue to drive efforts to diagnose cancers at the earliest possible stage, we also need to make sure the best possible treatments are made available to patients as soon as possible.
That is why we secured a new partnership with BioNtech to bring innovative vaccine research to England. From as early as September, our patients will be among the first to participate in trials and tests for potential vaccines across multiple types of cancer to both treat the existing cancer and help stop it returning.
This partnership is a giant leap towards achieving better outcomes for patients and will unlock the potential to develop revolutionary treatments.
I hope as much energy and interest will be thrust into this as it was with the Covid19 vaccination programme because so many of us are affected or know somebody affected by cancer.
If you are local and have been affected, there are two great local charities - Macmillan Tamworth and the Tamworth Cancer and Wellbeing Centre which provide fantastic support for those with a diagnosis and carers. Everything raised locally, stays in the local area helping residents, two truly decent charities.
