Neighbourhood Watch Week

Monday, 30 May, 2022

It's Neighbourhood Watch Week and this year Neighbourhood Watch is 40 years old.

Neighbourhood Watch is a community group designed to raise crime prevention awareness, build inclusive local networks and community cohesion, work closely with the police and other services to help reduce crime and boost wellbeing in the local area.

There are numerous Neighbourhood Watch schemes across Tamworth and the villages.  Some with a focus on certain streets, others on a whole estate. Ran by volunteers, these schemes make it clear to criminals that neighbours are keeping an eye for unusual behaviour and it will be reported back.

If you would like to set up a Neighbourhood Watch for your area you can do so by contacting the local police or taking a look online at:

https://www.ourwatch.org.uk/do-something-your-community

For 40 years these groups have done a fantastic job of helping police create safer neighbourhoods, enhancing community partnerships and tackling some of the smaller issues which affect residents and the environment of the area like fly tipping, anti social behaviour and graffiti.  Here is to another 40 years of sterling community work!

It’s the first of August so that means it’s time to kick off my annual social media campaign! It started with Defib a Day, and last year I focused on small business, but this year I want to focus on those important community groups that rely on valuable volunteers to keep going.

I work to support rural communities and businesses.  As the MP for the constituency of Tamworth I also represent the surrounding villages so helping rural areas thrive is high on my agenda.
