Last week I had the pleasure of visiting local business Keltruck Ltd at their premises on the Tame Valley Industrial Estate in Wilnecote.
Keltruck specialises truck and trailer maintenance, including acting on breakdown recovery. The company has numerous locations but the one in Tamworth is particularly interesting because it is one of only a few dozen Accord Dangereux Routier (ADR) tanker specialist workshops in the country. These trucks for those unfamiliar with the term are used to carry hazardous materials, they often have a large cylinder shaped tanker on the back. To maintain these vehicles requires very expert handling and good knowledge of the dangers associated with what the trucks may have been carrying.
I was greeted by Damian the vehicle maintenance manager and given a tour around the site showing me what they do and the kinds of vehicles they work on every day. The Midlands is home to so much industry and warehousing that keeping trucks road-ready is vital, the vehicle maintenance unit at Keltruck certainly have plenty to get on with. Despite their busy schedules, they gave me a really warm welcome.
Established in 1983, Keltruck continues to grow from strength to strength as Europe's largest independent Scania distributor. So next time you look at a truck passing by, it may well have been one maintained by a local team.
The company are taking on staff at the moment, so head over to their website, see if you have the skills to join their team. www.keltruck.com
