With car manufactures making more and more electric vehicles, especially the ones on our doorstep such as JLR is it only right that consumers can purchase electric vehicles with confidence that they can be easily charged.
I believe that improving access to car charge points, particularly for residents who do not have access to home garages and off-street parking is key to making a cleaner, greener, Tamworth.
The Government has announced that we are bringing forward plans to end the sale of new petrol, diesel or hybrid cars to 2035 at the latest. We need to ensure we are prepared. While I have still not made the switch myself, I know many residents feel the same way as me - if it was easier to charge, I could feel confident driving long distances.
Tamworth Borough Council are currently exploring the potential for rolling out charge points in town centre car parks and many supermarkets are also installing charge points. I would encourage other businesses and community meeting points to do the same.
Our country is leading the way with the response to climate change, last year an electric car was sold every 15 minutes, if we are to increase that further we need to improve public access to charge points, boosting infrastructure and building confidence in this new technology.
I look forward to seeing the technology improve and seeing more and more of it available in and around the West Midlands.
