A new ID card aimed at helping armed forces veterans gain access to specialist help and support has started to be issued.
From today any military personnel who have left service since December 2018 will automatically receive a new card. This MOD believe that this service will allow veterans to easily verify their identity to local authorities, NHS, charities and other bodies for priority services.
It is expected that all other veterans will be able to apply for the ID card by the end of this year. Tobias Ellwood, the Minister for Veterans said "We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the ex-forces community and we are working hard to ensure they receive the support they deserve."
I hope that once the cards are up and running, they will not only be accepted for statutory services but for retail offers, entertainment and leisure facilities too. It could really help our community recognise veterans to give back and reward their commitment and hard work for our country.
The current system can often mean lengthy checks for identity, these new cards should help make processes much more simple.
