Govt wants YOUR budget ideas

Budget red box

The Government will soon be delivering its first Spring Budget.  The Budget is currently scheduled for 11th March 2020.

However, during the election campaign as Boris Johnson toured the country, it was clear there were many good ideas being put forward, particularly from the Midlands.  For this reason he has provided the opportunity for local people to be involved in the Budget process.

The Treasury are calling for your ideas and recommendations on measures to help save taxpayers’ money, invest in EVERY CORNER of our country, and further increase the growth, productivity and strength of our economy in the years ahead.

If you are interested in taking part, sharing an idea or making a fully costed submission the link is here -

www.gov.uk/government/publications/budget-representations-guidance

The more serious and actionable the idea, the better but whether it is a large new project or a small tweak, the Government wants to hear from YOU.

Ideas are accepted until Feb 7th, so there's plenty of time to get any final bits of research in before submitting your plans. Businesses, charities, NGOs, Unions and other bodies can also make submissions.

I would love to see what you put forward.  Please let me know about any submission that you make, so I can follow it up with the Treasury where appropriate.

Deliver A Successful Brexit

I have no intention of stopping, delaying or reversing the United Kingdom's exit from the EU. The British people voted in an historic referendum in 2016 to leave the EU and reassert our sovereignty.

Support Our NHS

Demand for the NHS only continues to rise, and as the population ages, there are a growing number of widespread chronic conditions which will be increasingly expensive and challenging to address, without a credible and effective plan to fund the NHS and social care.

Promote Tamworth Jobs and Tourism

Tourism is currently worth £127 billion to Britain’s economy and as Britain’s seventh largest export industry, inbound tourism’s economic contribution is currently valued at £26.2 billion. We are lucky to have so much on our doorstep that I want to continue to promote.

Speaking in the House

Reducing The Cost of Living

Keeping prices low is incredibly important, though more people are in employment and education than ever before, cost of living is still a key issue for many of my constituents.

Improving The Welfare Benefits System

Getting benefits right is a concern of mine, the benefit system is there as a safety net for those who need support and should not be abused.  However it is also important that for benefit claimants, the system is actually helping, not hindering their progress.
