Changing Places toilets are disabled toilets with additional equipment such as hoists, adult sized benches and larger spaces which allow people to maintain their dignity while they are out and about.
We have had some great success with the facility in Tamworth Castle Grounds which has allowed more disabled people to feel comfortable shopping and visiting the town centre.
Now the Government is looking to install these kinds of facilities across our NHS. I am pleased to say that one of our local Trusts won the first round of funding.
The University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust has secured £51,000 to help introduce Changing Places toilets at their hospitals. Their hospitals include the QE Birmingham, Heartlands, Solihull and of course Good Hope.
This is a great step towards improving accessibility in our health care sites and our aim is to work towards every hospital across the United Kingdom getting at least one of these toilets installed.
