FE support package

Focus of the Government is moving away from Brexit and on to key themes the electorate has flagged as important.  Education is a key theme, in particular supporting further education.

That is why I am pleased to announce that FE providers are to benefit from a package of support work up to £24 million so they can continue to recruit, retain and develop excellent teachers.  This funding comes as part of a wider project to improve access to further education - so far we have ringfenced £400 million to boost 16-19 education in 2020-21 and introduced new T Level qualifications.

The government will also be providing grants and bursaries to train people to teach in further education, particularly in STEM subjects, English Language and Special Educational Needs teaching.  We want outstanding teachers who can inspire the next generation.

The Government will also be introducing plans to collect data on the FE workforce from the next academic year, this will help provide a better insight as to which subjects require more support, where teachers want and need more training and support and to help the Government gain a greater understanding of who makes up the FE sector.

I know a number of you have been pushing for more further education opportunities in Tamworth so I will keep raising this as an issue on both a local and national level.
