This week, local Tamworth MP Christopher Pincher received confirmation from the Department for Education that Fierte Multi Academy Trust has been given approval to sponsor a new primary free school in Anker Valley, which is proposed to open from September 2021.
Staffordshire County Council invited proposals from potential sponsors and following assessment at a local government level, the Secretary of State for Education Rt Hon Gavin Williamson MP has agreed, in principle, that the sponsorship of the new primary school is to be awarded to the Fierte Multi Academy Trust.
Following the news Christopher Pincher MP commented:
“This is good news that more school facilities are being built, especially in areas of new housing. This is the case with Anker Valley and I have always said I am open to new development so long as the infrastructure around it is built too.
“The new primary school will be a free school. Free schools give schools more freedom, allowing them to do what they know works to improve results for the children who attend them. The programme has been instrumental in raising standards and turning around failing schools. I will continue to champion freedom in schools in Tamworth and our villages.”
