Brief update on Ukraine Schemes

Friday, 24 June, 2022
Boris Johnson and President Zelenskyy

Residents have been asking how matters have moved on since we launched the Ukraine Visa schemes.

At the moment the current applications stand at 161,500.

Out of these 43,200 visas have been issued under the family scheme and 92,700 under the Homes For Ukraine Scheme.

Staffordshire has around 400 new residents from Ukraine with a good number across Tamworth and Lichfield.

For those who are hosting a Ukraine refugee, you may find a service being ran by Tamworth Together CIC to be helpful.

Every Saturday they are hosting a drop in so Ukraine refugees can meet each other, get help and those who are acting as hosts can learn more about Ukraine and meet up with one another.  From job schemes and benefit applications to assistance with organising school places and registering with GPs, it is a great space to get organised and find assistance with settling in to the local area.

Find the posters below! Ukraine support every saturday

I hope some of our newest residents and hosts find this helpful and feel less alone knowing support, assistance and social activities are available.

EDIT October 2022: A number of people are requesting whether this service is still running.  The meeting sessions are no longer running at the church as the majority of Ukraine Refugees are now settled in the town but if you contact Tamworth CIC on 01827 59646.  They do get back to all messages left.

Promoting community groups

It’s the first of August so that means it’s time to kick off my annual social media campaign! It started with Defib a Day, and last year I focused on small business, but this year I want to focus on those important community groups that rely on valuable volunteers to keep going.
