Many of us know of somebody who has dementia, lots of us support charities who do ground breaking work to help people with dementia and their carers but it is rare we hear of people actively involved with the research.
Well that can change... Vital studies into early diagnosis, prevention of dementia and new treatments are taking place right across the United Kingdom and volunteers are needed to take part in that research. There are all kinds of studies, from looking at new ways to diagnose to drug trials or surveys aiming to improve the quality of life for people with dementia and their carers.
An initiative between the Department of Health and Social Care, in partnership with the National Institute for Health Research, Alzheimer's Research UK and the Alzheimer's Society is now calling on people to take part.
Signing up is easy with participants able to join by phone on 0300 111 5111 or by using the website at www.joindementiaresearch.org
You don't have to have the condition, you may take interest or be a carer, everyone can participate on some level.
All of this can help build on our knowledge and understanding of dementia, helping us progress not only with treatments but making life better. I hope this research will have a big take up and provide hope to many families across Tamworth and beyond. I encourage residents to take part and look at how they can support this fantastic project!
