Back our bid for railway HQ!

Thursday, 17 March, 2022
Meeting with Wendy Morton, Railway Minister

Tamworth Borough Council has prepared an expression of interest for the town to be the new HQ of Great British Railways.

The town is well connected, has a long history and heritage and with the town centre regeneration going on, GBR HQ would make a fantastic addition.

Applications will be shortlisted in May and then it will be put to a public vote. I've been lobbying our Railway Minister on the issue.

Mr Pincher said: “It was very helpful to meet the Rail Minister, Wendy Morton, to understand more about the national competition to find the home of the Great British Railway HQ.

“As a town with a rich railway history and a strong present railway network, Tamworth would be an excellent place to lead this next era for Britain’s Railways.

“As we regenerate our town centre, with £21.65m million from the Government Future High Streets Fund, this is an excellent opportunity to bring in more jobs, more investment and more focus to our area and away from London.

“I fully support the Borough Council as they lead our town’s expression of interest in this project, under the leadership of Cllr Jeremy Oates. It’s a great idea and goes to show that the Council is again thinking proactively as it continues to improve our town.”

Our local Council are very active on this initiative as they know it will not only bring further investment into the town but bring high skilled jobs and cement Tamworth as the heart of the railway network.

If you've got ideas to help with the bid, send them to our Council Leader Jeremy Oates on jeremy.oates@tamworth.gov.uk.

It was fantastic to have Benjamin Culff from Tamworth in Parliament this week to show Parliamentarians how lives are saved by AED’s.

His own personal story is testament to the vital importance of getting these lifesavers into our homes.
