Today Tamworth Railway Station turned 180 years old... Yep it really is a historical site.
The older building pictured below is very different to the site we have today which as built in the 60s, while it held much more character was unfortunately less practical as a railway station.
The team at Tamworth Railway Station have been celebrating all day with cake and goodies for passengers and a prize draw to raise money for their charity of the year, the Alzheimer's Society. The station crew teamed up with local organisations including Drayton Manor theme park, Ash End children's farm, Daytona Tamworth and Statfold Barn Steam Railway to provide some fab prizes.
Happy Birthday to Tamworth Railway Station!!
The station has always been an active part of the community, whether fundraising, providing access to tools like their public defibrillator and tourist info centre to engaging with local groups like Tamworth Arts and Events or the George Bryan Centre who have provided the current art work throughout the build.
While the station is still looking a bit under the weather with scaffolding in place, this is a project being worked on throughout the summer while brickwork is being inspected and replaced. Here's hoping we see less scaffolding and more renovation soon!
