Honour our heroes

I am calling on the people of my constituency to help name all those Tamworth heroes who have fought and died since serving in our armed forces since WW2.

Working with Rev Alan Gordon and Tamworth District and Civic Society, we aim to build a memorial to them.

The challenge is, as people pass on or move away from the area, some of this valuable information has been lost.  That is why I am asking local people to come forward with names of residents that they know have fought or died in service for the United Kingdom since World War Two.

In the last 70 years as a country we have defended democracy and our way of life across the globe. The conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan will linger in the minds of many and sadly two brave soldiers from Tamworth lost their lives in this conflict.... I know there are others out there who have served throughout past conflicts and they should be remembered.

The Royal British Legion have been involved, the Ministry of Defence and the National Memorial Arboretum have all been helping find names of constituents who fought here and overseas who deserve credit for their valiant sacrifice.  I do not want to miss a single person off the list, so I hope you will join me in sharing any information you may have.

Please do get in touch with any names or details you can contribute.
